Most conversations about listing on PSE start with the same assumption: Start Market is where you begin, Prime Market is where you want to end up. The sooner you graduate, the better you've done.
For many Czech and Slovak companies, that assumption is wrong. Start Market isn't a stepping stone. For a lot of companies, it's the right long-term home.
The investor audience actually fits
Prime Market investors have hundreds of companies competing for their attention. Their investment criteria, liquidity thresholds, and minimum market cap requirements are designed for a different size of company. If you don't meet their threshold, you don't get on their radar — you just get ignored more expensively.
Start Market attracts investors who understand smaller, growing companies. That's not a limitation — it's alignment. The right shareholders at the right stage are worth more than a prestigious address with no one paying attention.
Visibility and liquidity are easier to earn here
On a smaller market, consistent investor communication has an outsized effect. A well-run AGM, clear results, an accessible management team — these get noticed, talked about, and translate into a more stable investor base and better liquidity.
On a larger exchange, the same effort competing against companies ten times your size produces a fraction of the result. Being a big fish in a smaller pond is a genuine strategic advantage, not a compromise.
The option to move up stays open
Nothing about committing to Start Market closes the door on Prime. The companies that make that move well are the ones that did the work first — built the IR function, earned the investor base, demonstrated consistent communication. They arrive on Prime with credibility already established.
The ones that rush find the move changes their address but not their audience. Build the track record first.
The compliance load is real
Becoming a public company is already a significant operational shift. Disclosure rhythm, investor communication, quarterly reporting — you are building new capabilities while running your core business simultaneously. Adding Prime Market obligations before your IR function is ready puts unnecessary strain on management.
Meeting the minimum requirements for Prime is not the same as being ready for it.
Start Market done well is not a consolation prize. For many companies, it's exactly the right place to be.
If you're considering a listing, or already on Start Market and wondering whether you're where you should be — the answer may be simpler than you think.
